I have read many books on prayer and they all have good things to take from them. When I got my hands on this one I was not sure what to expect. What I found pleasantly surprised me; a book on prayer that is engulfed with tonnes of scripture. The book takes you from the start to the back of the bible, giving you a glimpse into the prayers of the people found in scripture. The
commentary around it does a great job putting it into context for today. I found that the more I read through these accounts that my faith would increase through the testimony of scripture that shows God faithful time and time again. This book is not one man's opinion on prayer and how to pray but simply get's you reading about the prayers in scripture that will cause your heart to be stirred to be in the secret place. As a worship leader in a house of prayer, I cannot separate the songs from the prayers. There has to be a priestly ministry happening when I am on stage singing. A closet prayer life is essential. At the end of each chapter of this book it will present a challenge to try something in your prayer life. Some things might stretch your prayer routine but overall it should enhance your experience in prayer and communion with the Lord.
I am thankful to the author of this book as he frequently recommends other books on prayer that have been an encouragement to him. Just more for me to add to the list. One thing I found was lacking in the book was simply the poetic feel to the writing. This is something many modern books on prayer find difficult to capture if you compare them to the likes of E.M. Bounds or Leonard Ravenhill.
Overall this book has been an encouragement and challenge to me and has given me positive results in my prayer life, for that reason alone I would recommend it.
